                              Lincoln's Banner Regiment

      On August 15, 1862 this regiment was awarded a banner by President
      Abraham Lincoln
for being the first unit to reach  Washington in answer
      to his call for an additional 300,000
men.

      The President reviewed the regiment
commenting, "That it was the best
      appearing regiment that he had ever seen in the service  save
 for one, the
      Ellsworth regiment."

In as much as the 107th New York Volunteer Infantry was assigned to both, they adopted
as their slogan his answer to General Meade's question regarding the proper action for the Union Army at Gettysburg.
